None of us imagined that COVID 19 would transform into a pandemic. A lot of us, including me assumed that this was another version of the common cold or the flu, like the Influenza Virus.
Yes we’re all diligently segregating ourselves from other people, following law and order for the sake of our health and the society’s well being. But when it comes to the worrying part, are we taking it a little too far?
Time and again, we’ve been told that it is pointless to worry about something that we don’t have control over. And I think that the same holds true for the COVID 19 pandemic.
The media isn't helping much either. It's abuzz with constant updates over death rates and related images. Worrying isn't doing anything to us and if anything, it is just increasing our stress levels. When our body gets stressed, our immunity simultaneously goes down and we become more susceptible to illness.
Yes, please wear your face-mask and gloves but also, remember to stay calm.
Let's reason this out. Firstly, the novel COVID 19 virus mostly affects the elderly and those with existing respiratory illnesses. The ones who have been infected are recovering well in their isolation wards. Vaccine prototypes are being developed and tested which means that this isn’t the apocalypse and there’s definitely hope.
There's an upside to this pandemic, if I can even say that. We've realized the simple power of basic hygiene - regularly washing our hands with soap. We now understand that surfaces that we previously took for granted, can be infected with bacteria and we must practice good hygiene.
The collective consciousness has definitely improved. Keeping all this in mind, I'll reiterate my main point again.
Keep calm and stay hygienic.
